DVD Authoring still hangs with 1.75

Beitrag von nettleda » 04.12.2007, 12:07

I am still having problems with DVD Authoring with 1.75 which aren't present if I switch back to 1.40. My previous post on this issue has been closed without resolution.

I have been experimenting and have found that the critical item appears to be whether there are any cutpoints. If I remove all the cutpoints from the file then authoring runs OK, but if I have one (or more) cutpoints then authoring hangs at about 75%.

The affected .ts file (from Film4) is 1.9Gb. I can put it on a DVD and post it to you or I can re-upload to my Humax 9200T (the most popular PVR in the UK) and see if I can edit it into a much smaller file for FTPing.

Thanks
Dave

It should be possible to use the function "copy edited recording" inside DVR-Studio Pro to create a smaller sample. Just define a cut-area starting from about 20 seconds until the end.
Then press "Copy edited recording", the resulting file should be of about 10MByte of size.

Then please check if the problem persists with the small sample as well.

I tried using 'copy edited recording', but the resulting smaller files didn't reliably display the problem. When I saved files of about 25-50% of the original and tried with a cut added it sometimes hung but not always.

I don't have a lot of time to do lots more experimenting so I've put the complete .ts on a DVD-R and I'll post it tomorrow. You'll be able to run it under debug and see what's happening.

All you have to do is add a short cut (originally I just cut out all the ad breaks) and then use DVD wizard. Some way through authoring it hangs - see the debug listing on my original post for a clue to where.

Cheers
Dave

Any luck? I know you're busy - let me know if there's anything I can help with.
Note that I'm currently running v1.56 with no 'hang' issues.

Come on guys - I originally reported this fault in October. I really like your product but I'm stuck using v1.56. Please tell me something's happening.

I sent you an email on 20.01.2008 to your email address registered in this forum. Didn't you receive it? Propably one of these damn SPAM-filters again...

I checked your recording, but it didn't show the problem on any of our PC :(. So we're stuck here.

Have you tried the new version 2.0? As it's using the same authoring my expectations aren't too high, though...

same problem with version 1.75 and 2.02 (both english)

Beitrag von yovan » 19.04.2008, 17:37

hi
i have the same problems as nettleda.

when i take a record made on my dreambox 7000 i have the following behavior :
with 2.02 dvr-studio says:
- demuxing
title-1
info: long, not compatible DVD gop detected
authoring dvd :
title-1
and it hangs after some percent in the authoring process.

when i use dvr-studio 1.75 i have the same problem and the same messages

when i use my very old 1.50 version
the process goes to the end and i have my piece of dvd , with the right cuts.

i use the setting 'no menu' so it must make a simple dvd.
i use all english versions (1.50, 1.75 and 2.02).
and i use dvr-studio for some years now. so i don't think i misused it but that there is something in the last version that makes the 1.75 or 2.02 version hang.
by hang i means that the process doesn't use CPU and the only way to stop it is to kill it with the windows task manager.

i am using French windows XP2 on a amd 1.1 GHz processor. (old processor compared to th etoday's monsters).

what is annoying is that all my records leads to hang the PC.

best regards

to complete my previous test.

i think it is not related to the fact that there are cuts or not.

the first test i made were with 2 two cuts on a sport+ record, to cut what was before and after what i want.
that cutted record generates the problem described .

but when i take the same original record without cutting it, i still have the same behavior, ie that leads to the hang.

so i don't think it is related to the cuts but something more general.
by hanging i means : the CPU usage of dvr-studio goes from 94 % to 0% but nothing is done.
i use dvr-studio since 2005.

best regards.

to complete my observations :

on sunday i have tested dvr-studio 1.50/1.75/2.02 on all my 5 PC.

all 5 PC are with french windows XP PRO and have 1 Gbyte of RAM.
all have between 200 and 500 Gbytes of harddrive.

i tried the same thing (doing a dvd from the same record) using the dvd functions.
i just check the demux/edit and the create vob files.
i unchek the write dvd and compress dvd if necessary.

the results :
on an amd 1100 :
v1.50 works
v1.75 hangs
v2.02 hangs

on a pentium 4 1.6 Ghz
v1.75 hangs
v2.02 hangs

on a amd 2600 sempron
v1.50 works
v1.75 doesn't go to the end of the dvd-building process
v2.02

on a pentium III
v1.75 exits without provoquing a windows error screen during the dvd-building process
v2.02 exits without provoquing a windows error screen during the dvd-building process.

hangs means : the process doesn't use any more CPU? you can"t click on the terminate button.
the only way to exit is to kill the application with the task manager.

i have also tried on some other records and i have the same results.

i will mail you the debug logs .

i didn't notice the problem before , because i was using the dvd-lab (from mediachance) to make my dvd.
i think there is also a problem in the demux functions because now my demuxed records are no more accepted by dvd-lab and before they were.
it is why i have tested the dvd-building function in dvr-studio so lately.

i can, of course, send you a piece of record, but i don't think the recods are the problem. probably the problem is related to the configuration of the PC, even if i don't know what hurts dvr-studio in my 5 PCs.

best regards.

bets regards.

We have a tool to create small samples of recordings:
http://www.haenlein-software.com/HS/dow ... Sample.zip

Please create a 10Mbyte file and EMAIL it to me. The proposed FTP-transfer doesn't work right now.

Please check it the error persists with the small sample as well.

I had a similar problem with a testrecording lately. Please try the version below:
http://www.haenlein-software.com/HS/dow ... 203Eng.exe

Hopefully that works!

Haven't had much time over the past 12 months due to work issues (!) but I recently had some free time and moved my install to a newer PC to see if I could run v1.75 without "burn hang".

First few DVDs with v1.75 were OK, so I thought maybe the problem is gone but last night I encountered it again. :(

Even if I just try the burn on it's own it still hangs at 0% after 6s.

The buttons on the Progress window are still active. Help, logfile and tick boxes still respond. Cancel also is active but it doesn't break it out of it's hung state. Have to use Task Manager to kill the process.

In case it gives a clue this is the tail of the logfile (Log Level = 3)

final VIDEO_TS Path: C:\Documents and Settings\Dave\My Documents\Haenlein-Software\DVR-Studio Pro\VIDEO_TS
\ CBurnGeneric::Burn
DVD Command: Write
VIDEO_TS Path used: C:\Documents and Settings\Dave\My Documents\Haenlein-Software\DVR-Studio Pro\VIDEO_TS

writelib mesage: 7040
writelib mesage: 7250
writelib mesage: 7230
writelib mesage: 7070
writelib mesage: 9000

I didn't notice any activity from the DVD. I can see that similar issues are being reported against v2.x so I think this is still a problem.

I'm happy to provide more info / files and run any debug to help get to the bottom of this.

Hello nettleda,

please have a look at the settings of DVR-Studio Pro.

Under DVD burner you will find the interface.
Please switch from "INTERN" to "NERO" (if available) or "ASPI".
Mit freundlichen Grüßen

Ralf
