DVR Studio Pro 161 not burning long DVDs correctly

Beitrag von Dawntreader » 19.06.2007, 18:28

Windows XP Home SP2
DVR Studio Pro 161
Dreambox 7000s

I tried to burn a long movie onto DVD. The movie consisted of 5 .ts files of just over 1000,000,000 bytes long - just less than 4.5Gb in total. It was just a little too big for one normal DVD-R disk (Verbatim, good quality).

I used the Transfer Module, so that I wouldn't have to copy the movie to my HDD first. I used the DVD Wizard with a new title and chapters every 10 minutes.

It appeared to work. Towards the end of the burn DVD stage it came back with an error - something about Hardware.

The DVD was corrupt and would not play correctly . I tested it in several players.
--
I tried again using a different method. I copied the movie across to my PC. I used a large partition formatted with NTFS. I used DreamTSMan to copy the file and to joint it into one single file.

I tried the same process again DVD Wizard with chapters every 10 minutes to make a DVD-R. This time it appeared to work correctly. The log had no bad errors. However, when I tested the DVD on a standalone DVD player, it worked up until the 91 mins 25 sec 16 when it stalled and refused to play the rest of the movie.

I also tried this using the previous version of DVR Studio Pro without success.
---
Previous shorter movies and documentaries have worked fine before.
--

Is there a problem with either compression or writing a long DVD??

@Dawntreater:

normally DVR-Studio would complain about exceeding the DVD media capacity and NOT start writing the DVD at all. So the movie appears to have been of correct size to fit on a DVD.
As older versions of the software result in the same non - playable DVD (I hope you use RW media for further testing now) I would consider to try on a different PC with a different DVD writer.

Compression does only work as long as you are in your trial period (30 days) or after purchasing a licence key.

The log didn't help really. But try this:
disable "Burnin DVD" on the first page of the DVD-wizard. Then let the wizard do it's work. On the last page of the wizard you can let it play the DVD by pressing the green small "Play" in front of the "Write DVD" button.

Then try if the DVD is fully playable. If that's the case we know the DVD was created the correct way. Then please have a look at the folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\Main\My Documents\Haenlein-Software\DVR-Studio Pro\VIDEO_TS
and tell me the total size of all files in that folder. Then we know if DVR-Compress would have been neccessary.

I tried again, using a shorter movie (Casablanca) that dooes not need to be compressed.

I followed your advice axactly and tried to play the movie. Sadly, the green button does NOT work on my system. It does not open any media player. I have VLC and PowerDVD, so I think you need to fix that.

I searched and found some recent files, including the ifo. I tried to play this with VLC. It played for a while and then stopped before the end of the movie - as if it were a short move.

I tried again, but this time went forward to burn a DVD.

It appeared to work and the DVD plays, but it is TOO short and ends prematurely.

I checked the original on the Dreambox and it played perfectly and had everything there, including the end!!

I'm guessing something is either seriously wrong with this version of your software or it doesn't work on my system. I'm doing exactly the same things as I did with previous version so it has to be this version.

Please tell me where I can get a previous version, because I'm now quite frustrated and disappointed.

I suggest you label this a BETA version, used at own risk!

You can download the previous version 1.57 here:
http://www.haenlein-software.com/HS/dow ... 157eng.exe

So far we didn't have any similar reports like yours. So just because it's not working for you it's not a Beta ;).

Please tell me if it works with version 1.57.

A last question: are the recordings splited into multiple files named like:
movie.ts
movie.ts.001
movie.ts.002 ?

Kimi

I've made 25 successful DVDs with your software. IOnly 2 I needed to re-record because the sound and video were out of synch.

Now suddenly when I upgrade (by automatic request) I get 3 coasters with mysterious problems! Something;s wrong ...

Also, the green button does nothing. You haven't explained why that doesn't work.
--
... And to answer your question, I mainly used the transfer module. This handles the copy automatically.

I also tried a different method, by copying the movie across using DreamTSMan, which saves it as a single file.

Both failed.

I'll let you know how it goes with the previous version.

To answer your question about the green button: this does only work if your DVD-Player software can directly play IFO files. So if the file extension IFO is assigned to your DVD-player it should work.
Please have a look at the folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\Main\My Documents\Haenlein-Software\DVR-Studio Pro\VIDEO_TS

Double klick the file VIDEO_TS.IFO and it should start. If not then your software DVD-Player can not play DVDs out of a directory and only directly from DVD.
