- In short: Converts the Cut List entries (movie Cut Areas) from DVR-Studio Pro v1.x's exported registry entries to the new Cut Area format (Project\xyz.recml files) of v2.x.
Warning: Should you have trouble unpacking .zip archives, or have no experience manipulating the Windows Registry, then it may be better to *not* use the tool. Use AEcutAreaConv and the following tips at your own risk!
Prerequisites:- Usage under Windows XP.
- Experience with unpacking .zip archives.
- Experience manipulating the Windows Registry.
- DVR-Studio Pro v1.x *must* still be installed on your system. Put differently, the Cut List entries must still exist in the Registry.
Step-by-step:- Start off by downloading the AEcutAreaConv .zip archive.
Download: https://www.haenlein-software.com/HS/do ... v_v1.0.zip @ Haenlein-Software.com (2.11 MB)
(Converts DVR-Studio Pro 1.x Cut Area Definitions into DVR-Studio Pro 2.x Project Files) - Unpack the .zip archive e.g. on your "D:\" drive, this creates a new folder called:
"D:\AEcutAreaConv_v1.0\"
with the sub-folders "Movies" and "Projects", as well as the .exe. - Exporting the Cut List data from the Windows Registry:
- Via Windows Start menu button, Run..., launch the tool regedit.
- Unfold the following "entry chain":
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Haenlein\DVR-Studio Pro\CutList - Info: All of v1.x's Cut Area section marker information can be found in the CutList "folder". Should nothing be defined here, or should the folder not even exist, then there is nothing to convert to v2.x.
- Select the CutList "folder" name (highlighting it blue). Then place the mouse pointer over that entry and open up the Context menu by right-clicking your mouse button, choose Export.
- Info: In the next step only a *part* of the complete Registry will be saved, to be exact, only the CutList entries.
- Save the partial Registry into the "D:\AEcutAreaConv_v1.0\" folder, using the file name:
movies (the extension .reg is appended automatically).
Important: AEcutAreaConv.exe *only* works with the file AEcutAreaConv_v1.0\movies.reg, so the name must be exact!
- Open up the D:\AEcutAreaConv_v1.0\ folder (e.g. using the Explorer) and start the AEcutAreaConv.exe tool via double-click.
Alternative: Via Windows Start menu button, Run... , launch the tool cmd (DOSbox). Then change the current working directory to:
cd D:\AEcutAreaConv_v1.0
And then launch AEcutAreaConv.exe to get valuable feedback from the console. - The tool then shows the names of the newly created .recml files in the folder:
D:\AEcutAreaConv_v1.0\Projects\ - You can then look through the folder to find out what movies still have valid cut areas. The still useful .recml files should then be copied into DVR-Studio Pro v2.x's actual Projects folder.
Warning: Be sure to know what you are doing when overwriting already existing .recml files!
Where to find the Projects folder of DVR-Studio Pro v2.x?
Launch DVR-Studio Pro v2.x, then via the Functions, Settings menu, choose the Directories and Paths tab, to read up on the Project Directory line. - When you now load "old" movies with v2.x, you should find the previously defined cut areas under the Cut Areas button, on the right side of the screen.
Note:- The application was simplified on purpose. So to ensure its proper working follow the above mentioned steps closely.
- The new .recml files contain far more entries (data) than the old Registry entries of v1.x provide. But even though some data is not properly defined, DVR-Studio Pro v2.x will automatically fix the incorrect data.
- The only important data for us and DVR-Studio Pro v2.x is the CutArea section marker information, and that should be correct.
- AEcutAreaConv.exe only operates in the AEcutAreaConv_v1.0\ folder. No data outside this folder is changed! I.e. no already existing external .recml files are overwritten!
