4:3 Problem

I currently evaluating this software and generally I am very impressed with both speed and quality.
I have a .rec (Topfield format) which was a 4:3 ratio program that has some lead in 16:9 which records to DVD with a gap and vertical line on the right hand side. When played back on my DVD player (or software DVD player) the 4:3 playback is fine apart from the line on the right hand side - not a massive problem, just annoying.
In DVR-Studio Pro the inormation panel says it is 16:9 format whereas on another 4:3 recording I have it correctly identifies it as 4:3 (haven't recorded to DVD yet) andn it doesn't display the right hand side line in DVR Studio Pro (the line is displayed in DVR Studio Pro for my problem .rec).
I have tried playing the 16:9 setting in settings but it doesn't seem to take any difference. I'm sure it's an aspect ratio issue but can't sort it out.
I would be grateful if someone could give me a clue.
