Problem with DVR

Beitrag von radxxx » 27.11.2006, 21:30

Hello

I have a problem with pvr studio (or at least i think i have).
Ive been recording old Tatort episodes from WDR. When i convert the .rec files using DVR Studio all goes wel. I remux the files with TMPGenc, and the created mpeg file plays well on the PC (good picture & sound). Then i use ULEAD DVD Creator to make the DVD, that goes ok too. But when i play back the dvd on my home cinema set, the audio is very very soft. Barely hearable. Can this have something to do due to the fact that these old episodes are broadcasted in mono ? And if so, how can i fix this...

Thanks for your time

Greetings from Holland :)

Hallo Ron,

Garantiert!
Mit freundlichen Grüßen

Ralf

Hello

Problem is not solved when using DVR Pro. Could this be a codec problem ??

I'm sure it is not a codec problem, at least not one that is used by DVR-Studio Pro. The audio content is extractet unchanged, so in fact the material is played too soft by the DVD player. It might be a problem because of mono sound. Many DVD players don't like that as it is very, very uncommon on DVDs and most developers just forget to test it...

There is not much you can do about it. Well - you could do a demux, and the try to change the MP2 file into a PCM file and then increase the volume of that. But there are many, many ways to do that and I've never done that myself.

When you play the mp2 in winamp/media player, it is played at double speed. Is this normal ??

Well - almost ;)...

Winamp just doesn't expect anyone using mono audio any more... So the even audio packets are assigned to left speaker and the odd ones are assigned to the right speaker. Which results in double speed as for each audio-frame two packets are expected, but with mono of course only one is there!

It might also be the case that in the start of the recording there are some stereo-frames left. And the player sticks with that format resulting in the same problem. In that case make sure, that you set the cut-areas in a way that audio starts in mono.
