There are a total of six Whetblades in Elden Ring, each offering access to new affinities. They’re scattered across The Lands Between, often hidden in Elden Ring Runes dangerous locations, guarded by deadly enemies, or tucked away behind complex traversal puzzles.

All Whetblade Locations in Elden Ring
1. Whetstone Knife (Limgrave)
Affinity Unlocked: Standard, Heavy, Keen, and Quality
Location: You’ll find this early in the game in Limgrave, at Gatefront Ruins. There’s a small underground chamber that you can access by finding a staircase in the ruins. Inside a chest is the Whetstone Knife.
This item is crucial for introducing you to Ashes of War and basic affinity changes. With it, you can begin altering your weapons to favor Strength (Heavy), Dexterity (Keen), or a balanced approach (Quality).

2. Iron Whetblade (Limgrave)
Affinity Unlocked: Heavy, Keen, and Quality (Provides better control over scaling)
Location: In Limgrave, this Whetblade is found in the Stormveil Castle area. After defeating Margit, the Fell Omen, and making your way into the castle, you’ll find this Whetblade in the armory room located near the Rampart Tower Site of Grace.
This Whetblade provides expanded choices for the same affinities as the Whetstone Knife but with better control over how scaling works with Ashes of War.

3. Glintstone Whetblade (Liurnia of the Lakes)
Affinity Unlocked: Magic and Cold
Location: Travel to Liurnia of the Lakes and explore Raya Lucaria Academy. Inside, you’ll find the Glintstone Whetblade in a room near the Debate Parlor Site of Grace. Specifically, it’s behind a locked door that requires a key (from the boss fight), found in a room filled with books and magic enemies.
This Whetblade allows you to infuse weapons with Magic damage (for Intelligence builds) or Cold, which adds Frostbite buildup—a devastating status effect that deals bonus damage and slows stamina regeneration.

4. Red-Hot Whetblade (Caelid)
Affinity Unlocked: Fire and Flame Art
Location: Head to Redmane Castle in Caelid. Once inside, defeat the festival enemies or navigate after the Radahn Festival event. The Red-Hot Whetblade is found in a room near the plaza, typically guarded by enemies.
This Whetblade lets you add Fire damage to weapons or use Flame Art, which provides Faith scaling alongside Fire damage. Excellent for Pyromancer or hybrid Faith builds.

5. Black Whetblade (Below Caelid, Nokron Eternal City)
Affinity Unlocked: Poison, Blood, and Occult
Location: You’ll need to progress Ranni’s questline or defeat Radahn to access Nokron, Eternal City, located beneath Caelid. Once inside Nokron, explore the Night’s Sacred Ground. You’ll find the Black Whetblade near a corpse close to an altar after passing several Silver Tear enemies.
This Whetblade gives you access to Poison (status buildup for poison damage), Blood (causes Hemorrhage buildup), and Occult (which scales weapons with Arcane). It’s essential for bleed builds and those who want to maximize status effect application.

6. Sanctified Whetblade (Leyndell, Royal Capital)
Affinity Unlocked: Holy and Lightning
Location: In Leyndell, Royal Capital, you can find the Sanctified Whetblade in the Fortified Manor, which mirrors Roundtable Hold. Explore the manor and search the blacksmith’s room. The Whetblade is on a corpse near the area where you would normally find Smithing Master Hewg in the Roundtable Hold.
This Whetblade unlocks Holy (ideal for Faith builds focused on fighting undead and dealing radiant damage) and Elden Ring Runes for sale Lightning, which can be devastating for Dexterity and hybrid builds focusing on fast, high-damage attacks.
