What Is Shield Rush, and Why Is It Important?
Shield Rush (often called Rush Strike or Assault Strike, depending on translation) is one of the Gladiator’s core abilities. It’s a mobility skill that lets you quickly close gaps between enemies, knocking them down for a short time. At higher levels, the skill becomes even more versatile, offering a mix of offensive and defensive advantages.
Why should you level up Shield Rush?
Crowd Control: It provides a reliable knockdown effect, which can be a game-changer in both PvP and PvE. Higher levels offer better chances to land a successful knockdown.
Defensive Buffs: As you level up the skill, it gives you a defense boost that scales based on the number of enemies hit, making it invaluable in larger fights.
Mobility: The skill also serves as a gap closer, allowing you to quickly reposition yourself, especially useful in PvP where repositioning can be crucial.
Now, let’s dive into the practical ways to level up Shield Rush and improve its effectiveness.
How Do You Level Up Shield Rush?
There are three main ways to level up Shield Rush in Aion 2: Mastery Points, the Daevanion Skill Tree, and Gear & Arcana. Each of these systems contributes to your skill’s growth in different ways.
1. Mastery Points
Mastery Points are the primary resource for increasing your skills’ base levels. These points are earned as you level up your character, and you can use them to directly increase the base level of Shield Rush.
How to Use Mastery Points:
Open the Skills menu (you can use the hotkey K).
Find Shield Rush in the list of Gladiator skills.
Spend your Mastery Points to increase its level. Each new level increases the damage, knockdown chance, and other benefits.
You’ll earn Mastery Points as you progress through levels, so you can gradually improve the skill as you go.
2. Daevanion Skill Tree
The Daevanion Skill Tree is an advanced progression system where you can invest Denion Crystals, which are obtained from Sealed Dungeons. This system allows you to enhance your skills beyond their base caps, giving them additional boosts.
How to Use the Daevanion Skill Tree:
Earn Denion Crystals from Sealed Dungeons (this will take some time and effort).
Spend these crystals in the Daevanion Board to unlock blue nodes that enhance active skills like Shield Rush.
These upgrades allow you to push Shield Rush to a higher level and further augment its effects, such as reducing cooldown or increasing its knockdown potential.
This is an essential system for experienced players who want to maximize their skill power beyond what Mastery Points can achieve.
3. Gear & Arcana
The third way to increase the power of Shield Rush is through your gear. Items such as Rings, Weapons, and Guards may come with skill-specific bonuses that directly affect Shield Rush. Additionally, Arcana Cards obtained from Transcendence Dungeons can further boost the skill.
How to Use Gear & Arcana:
Equip items that offer bonuses to Shield Rush. For example, some weapons or rings can increase its damage or reduce its cooldown.
Use Arcana Cards from Transcendence Dungeons. These cards can provide additional skill bonuses that can push Shield Rush to higher levels, often allowing you to reach the +20 cap for the skill.
If you want to push your skill to the maximum level, you’ll need a combination of high-quality gear and Arcana Cards to reach the full potential of Shield Rush.
What Are the Evolution Thresholds for Shield Rush?
As you level up Shield Rush, you’ll unlock important enhancements that significantly improve the skill’s utility. These enhancements are tied to specific level milestones, and each one offers unique benefits.
Level 8 – First Enhancement Slot
At level 8, Shield Rush unlocks its first enhancement slot. This is where you can add a bonus effect, such as increased damage or reduced cooldown. Choosing the right enhancement for your playstyle can make a big difference in your gameplay.
Level 12 – Second Enhancement Slot
At level 12, you unlock the second enhancement slot. This opens up more opportunities to customize the skill, whether you want to focus more on damage, mobility, or defensive buffs.
Level 15+ – Third Enhancement Slot
Once you reach level 15 and beyond, you unlock the third enhancement slot. This is often where the most impactful changes occur, including additional utility like movement during the casting of the skill or secondary status effects like stuns or debuffs. These changes can turn Shield Rush into an even more versatile tool for both PvP and PvE.
How Should You Use Shield Rush Strategically?
Now that you understand how to level up Shield Rush, let's talk about how to use it effectively in different scenarios.
Crowd Control in PvE
In PvE, the primary use of Shield Rush is its crowd control potential. The knockdown effect can hit up to 100% of NPCs at higher levels, making it great for stunning enemies in dungeons or group fights.
When to use it:
Initiating Combat: When you enter a large fight, use Shield Rush to quickly knock down multiple enemies and prevent them from overwhelming you.
Defensive Buffs: As you hit multiple targets, you’ll receive a defense buff, making it easier to tank damage from mobs.
Gap Closer in PvP
In PvP, Shield Rush is a fantastic gap closer, allowing you to quickly close the distance between you and an opponent. You can activate it after a dodge to reposition yourself, making it a critical tool for both offense and defense.
When to use it:
Closing Distance: If your opponent is trying to kite you, use Shield Rush to quickly close the gap and initiate your combo.
Escaping or Repositioning: If you're out of position, use the skill to reposition yourself and regain the upper hand.
Tanking and Group Pulls
Shield Rush also serves as an effective tool for Gladiators who want to tank in large group pulls. The more enemies you hit, the stronger your defensive buffs become, allowing you to soak up more damage for your team.
When to use it:
Group Pulls in Dungeons: If you’re pulling a large group of enemies, Shield Rush can give you the necessary defense to survive while your team focuses on damage.
Leveling up Shield Rush is one of the key aspects of mastering the Gladiator class in Aion 2. By investing in Mastery Points, utilizing the Daevanion Skill Tree, and enhancing your gear with skill bonuses, you can make this skill incredibly effective. Whether you’re using it to control crowds in PvE, close gaps in PvP, or tank large pulls in dungeons, Shield Rush is a versatile skill that rewards careful leveling and strategic usage.
