I have a problem with some files only. When I use DVD Wizard, DVD-Studio pro stops when it is authoring the file. At that point I can only close the program down. If I do not, it closes itself. The common factor with all files affected is that, during the demuxing stage, there is a message "Automatically patching Aspect Ratio to 4:3." I seem to have this problem whenever this message appears. When it does not appear I do not think I have this problem as far as I can recall.
I think the problem may relate to programs recorded from Film 4 but I am not certain about this. Recordings made from BBC 1, BBC2, ITV, Channel 4 etc do not seem to be affected as far as I am aware.

Yes, I downloaded it recently.
Since I posted my original question, I have tried unchecking the box "Ensure same video format for entire recording (i.e. 16:9". however this has made no difference - the same recordings fail to complete authoring.

Could you please create a small sample of such a recording? We have a small tool to do that:
http://www.haenlein-software.com/HS/dow ... Sample.zip
You can switch to English in the upper right corner.
4Mbyte should be enough, but please check if the problem persists with the small file as well.

I've had an everytime problem arise since upgrading to 1.70. All my 16:9 programmes get burned as 4:3 centre cut-out, unless I 'force' to 16:9 on all titles. This is despite the DVD Wizard correctly identifying all titles as 16:9. Also all the examples this has happened on so far have had NO 4:3 material at either end. Very frustrating

Thank you for your reply of 14th October. sorry for the delay in replying but I have been away.
I have tried to send you a sample using your "Save Sample" tool but when I attempt to select a sample I receive the message:
"Runtime Error
Program...Files\Content.IE5\85ujw5uf\SaveSample [1]\Save Sample.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the applications support team for more information"
The Save Sample program then closes. This has happened with two different samples so I do not know how I can send a sample to you.

You are starting the software from an temporary Internet cache directory. I assume that this is the problem.
If it still doesn't work try this:
- open the recording in DVR-Studio Pro
- define a cut-area starting at about 15 Seconds until the end
- press "copy edited recording"
The resulting file should be of 5 to 10 MByte of size.

Thank you for your reply of 4th November.
I have tried several times to send you a sample but the program simply ends with the message that I must send the sample to you without explaining how I can do this. I assume that your program; "save sample" should include the means by which I send the sample to you for analysis but it simply just closes after telling me to send the file. It also asks that I send the text message but, because it then closes, the text file is lost. Please advise me what I am doing wrong.

Thanks for your reply.
I have sent a sample to you together with the text file now I understand how to do this. However, I have been reading other comment streams and see that other users seem to have a similar problem to my own; nomely that DVR-Studio Pro "hangs" during authoring, although, in my case it is not every time.
I see that other users are asking to re-instal an earlier version of DVR-Studio pro. I first noticed the problem after installing version 1.7 and installing version 1.75 has not cured the problem. If it is not possible to find out what is wrong from the sample I have sent, can you tell me how to re-install an earlier version and replace version 1.75, please?

If you revert back to an older version, you can do this. But then you would be stuck with that version forever until I would be able to resolve the problem just by accident.
Those users going back to an older version just didn't have the patience to support me solving the problem by providing me a sample causing the problem on my PC's, too. I understand that, because time is precious and if you are fine with the reduced functionality of old versions that's ok for me. But as long as I can not reproduce the error myself I can do nothing to solve the problem.
Version 1.66 you can download here:
http://www.haenlein-software.com/HS/dow ... 166eng.exe
Version 1.57 you can download here (old authoring system, very unflexible menus, no dvd-styles etc.):
http://www.haenlein-software.com/HS/dow ... 157eng.exe

Thanks for your reply. I agree that it is better for all of us if the problem can be resolved. You should by now have the sample I sent so I will not go back to the earlier version until you have had a chance to find an answer.
Many thanks,
JohnJeff
